The health and social care sectors are ever growing and developing and employ nearly a quarter of the UK workforce in a range of roles.  This course will give students the opportunity to examine the structure and development of the sectors both academically and through placement, giving the learner a solid grounding for further study of roles related to patient care.

The Pearson BTEC Higher National qualifications in Healthcare Practice for England are aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. Higher Nationals provide a wide-ranging study of the health and social care sector and are designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in healthcare practice or related fields. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of the health and social care sector, Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Healthcare Practice for England give students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for further study or training in healthcare related fields.

Our Approach

Delivery will consist of lectures, seminar and placement competencies, fully supported through the college’s “Blackboard” virtual learning environment.

All the modules have embedded employability skills such as analytical thinking, problem solving, team working and interpersonal skills. The programme encourages lifelong learning by providing sufficient opportunity for self-directed learning and reflection, vital skills for all health and social care practitioners.

Entry Requirements

32 UCAS tariff points.

Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject or A Levels.

Significant relevant prior learning and experience may be considered.

Course Length

The course will run for one year (full-time only or 2 year part-time) split into two semesters of 15 weeks per academic year, with the option to return for a second year (full time or 2 further years part-time) to complete level 5 units and achieve a higher national diploma (HND).

Career Progression

After completing the HNC in Health and Social Care, students can progress on to the HND Health and Social Care to develop their skills and knowledge further. Successful completers can also progress directly into employment.
