What will I study?

The Level 1 Diploma in Health and Social Care is ideal for anyone who is interested in a career in health and social care. This includes jobs such as care worker and healthcare assistant. Following completion of the course, students will have the opportunity to progress to a related Level 2 course, or seek employment straight away.

This course is designed to provide you with an awareness of health and social care, and develop your literacy and numeracy skills to aid you progressing to higher level studies. It will help you develop an understanding of the sector and opportunities for employment.

Your programme of study includes:

  • Introduction to Health and Social Care
  • Roles in Health and Social Care
  • Principles and Values in Health and Social Care
  • Safeguarding and Well-being

This qualification will develop the knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s sectors. It includes the roles played by workers, from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others. There is the option to take units in more specialised areas such as learning disability, sensory loss or mental health.

At the end of the programme of study you will have achieved a Level 1 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

How will I be assessed?

The qualification will be assessed by your Tutor or Assessor using a range of methods. This could include tasks such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework, or methods such as oral questioning.

What could it lead to?

On completion you may progress into employment within the Health and Social Care sector or progress to a related Level 2 course for which a Pass profile is required.
