Senior Healthcare Support Workers help registered practitioners deliver healthcare services to people. As an experienced support worker, you will carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered healthcare practitioner. You will provide high quality, compassionate healthcare, following standards, policies or protocols and always acting within the limits of your competence. Senior adult nursing support workers look after adults in a range of settings, duties will vary accordingly. In most instances your supervisor will be a registered nurse. Some people you support have short term needs eg. they have sustained an injury, others may have longterm conditions which affect their everyday lives.
You may work in a range of services eg. hospitals; community, health or birth centres; someone’s home; operating theatres; nursing or care homes; hospices and/or GP surgeries whilst working in partnership with families, carers and other service providers.
Qualification and End-Point Assessment Information:
The assessment plan describes how the apprentice is assessed at the end of their apprenticeship and by whom. The assessment plan will be informed by ongoing consultation with employers, professional bodies, awarding organisations and training providers.
Apprentices will need to complete a Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support prior to completion of the apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship includes Pass and Distinction grades with the final grade based on the apprentice’s combined performance in each assessment activity.
Are there any entry critera:
Prospective apprentices will need prior experience as a support worker and English and Maths at Level 1.
On completion of this apprenticeship the individual will be a competent and job-ready Senior Healthcare Support Worker.
After a period of working and gaining experience, you may be able to work towards an Assistant Practitioner post or apply to university to become a Registered Healthcare Practitioner.
