This course will interest students who would like to work within the creative make-up industry. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your skills as a professional make-up artist working with performers to a high level of occupational ability. Hair and Media Make-up covers creative hair techniques for images including avant-garde, themes and commercial looks.

What will I study?The subjects covered include the theory and practice of:
Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
Client care and communication in the beauty-related industry
Apply airbrush make-up to the face
Fashion and photographic makeup
Style and fit postiche
Apply prosthetics pieces and bald caps
Design and apply face and body art
Fantasy hair design for performers
Additional activities:Home study is vital for success
Work experience (mandatory)
Attendance at visiting speakers’ sessions
You will also be encouraged to take minor courses.
How will I be assessed?Practical and theoretical assessment. Written questions, assignment work, questioning and external exams online are all part of the assessment process. You will be required to provide your own models.
What could it lead to?
Progression on to Level 4-5/Foundation degree.
Career areas include the media, hairdressing or television work. Make-up artists work for TV and film companies, video production companies, major stage productions and in the fashion industry. Others work in beauty salons, possibly in a large hotel or on a cruise liner.
