If you want an exciting and varied career, hairdressing could be for you. There is a demand across the country for skilled and qualified hairdressers, and employers increasingly need committed, well trained and enthusiastic workers. You will work as part of a team in running a salon by shampooing, conditioning, styling, cutting, colouring and reception work and therefore gaining valuable employability skills.
Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hairdressing (Standard).
English and maths. Students without Level 1 English and maths will need to achieve this Level and take tests for Level 2 English and maths prior to the end-point assessment.
To start the course you must be employed in a relevant environment for a minimum of 30 hours per week. For a Hair professional (Level 2) you should ideally have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English (grade 3+).
Apprentices attend College one day per week, and work for their employer the rest of the time. The apprenticeship takes two years to complete. The apprentice may need to attend extra session on an additional day for Maths or English.
You will build up a portfolio, which is a collection of examples or evidence of your work that demonstrates your skills and ability, such as a work diary, photos, statements from your employer and colleagues and examples of completed tasks. End-point assessment consists of practical tasks, observations, oral questioning, written questions, assignments and online tests.
The Functional Skills are assessed through online tests.
Job opportunities following completion of this qualification include Junior Stylist, Stylist, Colour Technician, self-employment, or progression onto the Advanced Hairdressing Apprenticeship Level 3.
