Who is this course aimed at?
Anyone wishing to learn how to use industry-standard 3D CAD software. It would suit, for example those who already have some experience of 3D CAD and who want to gain a qualification; someone already working in e.g.an engineering environment who wants to change roles in the company; someone wanting to learn how to use 3D CAD as a design tool or those who are looking at a new career.
Overview of the course
The Level 1 Award is an introductory course in 3D Computer Aided Design.
Using Solidworks software, you will develop your skills in practical sessions and learn some of the theory behind 3D computer aided design.
This course is suitable for complete beginners to CAD, although experience with using a PC would be a definite bonus: basic file management techniques etc. No previous experience of SolidWorks or other CAD software is required (but may be a bonus)
Dates and Times
22nd February 2021 - 5th July 2021
6.00pm - 9.00pm
The course is taught in one of our CAD computer suites and is mainly a “hands on” experience. There is a small amount of background theory to learn, but mostly the lessons will be a series of demonstrations followed by you using the software to complete a series of exercises. The tutor is on hand to assist and answer any questions.
There are 2 practical assessments taking approximately 3 hrs each, and a simple, short written test.
The course is graded at Pass/Merit/Distinction.
£150 - £390
There are no additional costs, other than for printing your work, which will be no more than £1.00.
The class is taught in a modern, well equipped CAD suite with current, industry-standard software.
Skills you will develop
You will develop a basic understanding associated with IT, CAD hardware and operating systems, and basic file management techniques, as well as giving a basic understanding of the parametric modelling process (3D) and its user interface.
You will be able to use a range of commands to create and constrain sketches, produce extruded and revolved features, placed features to modify parametric models, and methods to create assemblies.
There is a natural progression to the Level 2 Award and the Level 3 Certificate for those wishing to progress.
This course will develop your skills at 3D CAD, and can help you in any design-related job in manufacturing, or engineering, for example.
