Who is this course aimed at?
This course is aimed at people who have an interested in engineering; maybe for a hobby, interest, home project or even beginning a change in career.
Overview of the course
You will be working with mild steel. The process you will be shown and practice will be Gas welding (Oxygen and Acetylene) Manual Metal Arc (MMA (stick welding)) and Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding techniques. You will be shown how to prepare, weld, and inspect your welds.
Entry Requirements
Anyone can enrol, the course is open to anyone with an interest in engineering.

12th January 2021 - 23rd February 2021
20th April 2021 - 25th May 2021
Tuesday evening.
Course Length
6 weeks – one evening per week for 3 hrs.
Course Modules/units
- Workshop health and safety
- Prepare welding equipment and consumables
- Prepare, support, tack and weld different types of joint
- Prepare and weld small section
- Carry out non-destructive and destructive testing
Teaching Method(s)
The course is practical and based in our college engineering workshops. The tutor will demonstrate techniques and processes, correct and accurate use of tools and equipment and will support you through practice activities to develop your skills and knowledge.
Assessments
There will be no test/examination associated with this course.
Cost
£190.
Other information
You will need to bring your own steel toe capped boots and overalls. We will provide all other safety equipment, tools and materials etc.
