Who is it for and what is the aim?

This one-day workshop is designed for supervisors and junior managers who recognise the need to start building more effective and productive working relationship with senior staff in their organisation. The aim is to build awareness of how to be pro-active, instead of reactive, and use a basic set of valuable techniques.

What are the learning outcomes?

As a result of attending the session, individuals will be able to:

  • Explain the advantages and benefits of taking opportunities to manage up
  • Gain credibility and respect from senior managers
  • Understanding senior management business objectives and needs
  • Identify a range of situations that can cause temporary barriers to the staff/manager relationship
  • Demonstrate key communications skills to make positive impact
  • Judge how to interpret personal style and behaviours in order to improve collaboration

  • How managing up is not a ‘quick fix’ but a steady and powerful change
  • Understanding your manager’s role and expected outputs
  • Reading the signs of behaviours and style in someone else
  • Questions you need to ask to receive the most valuable information
  • Confident communication
  • Techniques for selling ideas and solving problems

How will delegates learn?

By a range of exercises, short skills practises, observation, case studies and action planning.
