This may be the course for you.
It is aimed at learners working/wanting to work in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.
This course will provide you with knowledge and skills to work directly with children and young people
There will be half a day at college and then you will be expected to complete 1-2 days in a school setting (placement) every week
English and Maths GCSE C/Level 4 or equivalent is recommended but not essential as they can retake them alongside the course.

It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour, communication and professional relationships and supporting teaching within a learning environment.
A range of teaching styles will be used. This will be in the classroom and then knowledge will be implemented and observed within placement.
All units will be internally assessed using written assignments, professional discussions in college and direct observations will take place in the setting. No exams.

Learner will need a DBS check which will incur a fee of £44 if doing through college.
To gain underpinning knowledge alongside practical experience of supporting children in their learning to enable a career as a teaching assistant. You will work with your peers sharing your experiences and information from your placement.
You will attend York College for each session, you will have a placement within a releveant childcare setting.
You will develop skills for supporting children’s learning and development, communication skills will be enhanced and you will gain skills in managing Health and Safety.
Learners can progress onto the NCFE Cache Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or into the workforce.
Learners can apply for Teaching Assistant roles on completion of the course.
All tutors and assessors are fully qualified with a wealth of experience within the sector.
