This qualification is suitable for anyone of any age wanting an introduction to furniture-making. No previous knowledge or experience is required.
This course is a great opportunity to learn how to design and make your own simple furniture. During the course you will learn about materials, tools and equipment used in the furniture industry. For those out there who like looking around antiques shops, this course could help you understand a little more about furniture history and teach you the skills required to progress onto repairing and restoring old and damaged furniture.
You will have the opportunity to learn about woodworking joints, techniques and the basic skills needed to make furniture by hand. This will involve working from drawings to make a handmade furniture product. This will lead to an opportunity to make a small occasional table that could be individually designed to suit your own style. At the end of the course you will have a piece of furniture that you can take home. The course can further your interest in woodcraft or help you progress in wide range of jobs within the construction industry.
The qualification is delivered using a range of units. Working in our well-equipped workshops, you will practice and develop furniture-making skills using hand and power tools, and develop knowledge of furniture history and design. The qualification is assessed by a practical assignment and a furniture-related theory assignment linked to your handmade furniture product, which you will create during the year.
