The programme is equipped to build on the knowledge and skills gained in the HNC Business course and helps to develop key theoretical concepts and skills for use in practical situations, with a strong focus on career prospects, as well as teaching and learning strategies to develop vital employability skills which will allow you to thrive in professional situations.

You will develop your knowledge and skills relevant to careers in contemporary organisations, with flexible delivery options to suit your personal needs, whilst working with dedicated tutors who are on-hand to support you whenever you need it.

The HND in Business, besides being a stand-alone qualification that is recognised by employers, is a qualification that allows students who wish to progress to a university Top-Up degree course to do so at York College, or at other institutions.

Our Approach

This is a classroom-based course. Teaching will primarily include lectures, seminars and workshops. There will be a requirement for students to engage with online resources over the duration of the course and you will need to undertake independent study outside of taught sessions.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of HNC Business or equivalent level 4 qualification.

Maths and English GCSE at Grade 4 (or equivalent) also required.

Applicants with significant relevant prior learning and experience may also be considered.

Course Length

The course will run in college term times and will last 1 academic year (38 Weeks).

Course begins September 2021. Timetables are to be confirmed but the course will run over 2 days per week.

Career Progression

Successful completion of the HND Business will enable you to enrol a Top-up degree programme at York College, or at other institutions.

Many professional bodies also recognise the HND for further professional study.

The skills and knowledge gained through studying this course can provide graduates with the opportunity to work in many different areas of the Business sector including retail, marketing, finance, sales, hospitality, customer service and administration.

Jobs roles could include: Team leader, HR co-ordinator, marketing assistant, customer service assistant, event coordinator, finance assistant, buyer or manager to name but a few.


£7200. (Pro-rata for part-time). Student Finance England funding is available via the direct.gov website.

Additional Costs

Katharine McDonald. BSC (Hons) Marketing, MA Leadership & Management, PGCE Post Compulsory Education, QTLS, Fellow of HEA (Pending). Katharine has been a lecturer in Further and Higher Education for 15 years and has extensive industry experience in Marketing, Retail, Leadership and Management. Katharine has particular specialisms in Business Ethics, Leadership and Management and Employment Law. In addition to teaching, Katharine is a Trade Union Branch Representative and this allows her to maintain current industry experience and CPD in regard to employment practices and legislation.
