Vocational Studies (Digital Technologies) Diploma Level 1
This course gives you the opportunity to develop a wide skillset and a variety of digital skills that can be utilised in numerous different areas.
Entry requirements
A minimum of 3 GCSE subjects at grade 2, ideally including English and Maths. Students with no formal qualifications will be assessed before enrolment. You must have a keen interest in creative and interactive media.
What will I study?
You will complete ten units over the year which include:
- Being organised
- Developing a Personal Progression Plan
- Working with Others
- Researching a Topic
- Creating a Storyboard and Shooting a Short Film
- Creating an Animation and Developing Digital Information Using IT
- Designing a Product and Presenting a Business Idea
These units aim to develop a wide variety of digital skills that can be utilised in numerous different areas such as Digital Technologies, Media, Games Development, Art and Business. You will work both independently and within groups to improve core skills required for industry such as communication, organisation, teamwork and research whilst developing your creative skills using software such as Procreate, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Animate and a wide range of apps.
This course is an exciting one, that offers you the opportunity to develop a wide skillset in a supportive environment.
You will use iPads in most of your units.
Students who have not yet achieved a grade 4 at GCSE in Maths and English will continue studying both of these subjects alongside the course.
Method of delivery
You will typically be in College three or four days per week. In-College delivery is supported by online resources, and students develop strong independent learning skills to equip them for their next steps.
How will I be assessed?
The Diploma is assessed at a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade through the completion of internal assignments. There are no exams.
Good course combinations
This is a full-time course. It is not possible to combine this course with other Vocational, Apprenticeship or A Level programmes.
Your next steps
On successful completion of the course, you may progress to the Level 2 Extended Certificate in Information and Creative Technologies or an equivalent pathway.
