The T Level qualification has been designed by a panel of employers, professional bodies, and education specialists. The purpose of the Level 3 Technical qualification is to ensure that students have the knowledge and skills to progress into skilled employment or higher-level training relevant to the T Level.

This qualification is a combination of classroom theory, practical learning, and industry placement (work experience) with an employer.

Entry requirements

4 or 5 subjects at grade 4 or above including English and Maths.

What will I study?

The Technical Qualification is the main classroom-based element of the course and consists of two components:

Core Content

The core content focuses on the students’ knowledge and understanding relevant to design, surveying and planning within the construction industry. The breadth of the content will ensure students are able to apply their skills in a variety of contexts and purposes, relating to employment in the occupations linked to the qualification. Topics will include:

Occupational Specialisms
Students can choose to specialise in different occupational specialisms. This will ensure that students develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to support their development once in work (including an apprenticeship.) Occupational specialisms with this T Level include:

  • Surveying and Design for Construction and the Built Environment
  • Civil Engineering
  • Building Services Design
  • Hazardous Materials Analysis and Surveying

Industry placement

The industry placement allows students to develop their occupational specialism skills as well as those necessary to working in any environment, such as effective planning, working with others, health & safety and promoting equality and diversity.

Method of delivery

This programme will be delivered in our modern workshops and classrooms, using our fantastic industry standard equipment. We will be focusing on developing your practical skills, underpinning knowledge and professional behaviours ready for assessment. All assessments will be carried out in accordance with awarding body guidelines. To prepare you prior to your assessments, we will build up your skills, knowledge and behaviours to give you the best chance of achieving your potential. We will sequence the curriculum deliver to meet industry needs and work with you through each step to build your confidence. You will be participating in an industry placement throughout your programme.

    • Successful completion of 315 hours industry placement over two academic years

You may progress into employment, an apprenticeship or higher level of study, including university.

What UCAS points do T Levels carry?

UCAS tariff points were allocated to T Levels in 2019, with the top T Level grade equal to achieving 3 A* at A Level. Points have been allocated to the overall T Level grade, and students must achieve at least an overall pass grade to receive UCAS points.

These courses are designed to provide you with the skills needed to apply for employment in the relevant industry. Alternatively, you can progress to university to study further or you could apply to study an apprenticeship.

We have a Work Placement team based at the College who will arrange this for you with participating employers, ensuring you can gain the knowledge you need.
