This course is suitable for students who have enjoyed and been successful on the Intermediate course, or who are beginning to be confident users of everyday Spanish when on holiday or travelling for work.
Students will practise their listening, reading and speaking skills. There will be a little more emphasis than in previous courses on how the language works; students may begin to discuss the past and future plans in more detail. The emphasis is still on communication, finding out more or sharing experiences of Spanish culture and enjoying learning the language.
The course has various useful and helpful topics which may include:
- Discussing jobs in more detail
- Describing personal qualities – self and other people
- Describing common ailments for minor health treatment
Explaining problems when travelling or in accommodation
Students should have completed the intermediate course and/or had some experience of learning Spanish amounting to at least 40 hours or equivalent.

January (Eve) – 19th Jan 2022 – 29th Mar 2022, Tuesdays, 6pm – 8pm, 10 weeks

This is a classroom-based course and will be taught with a focus on listening, understanding and speaking with some reading and writing. There will be opportunities for pair speaking work, listening to recordings and reading simple text with some writing of simple messages.
There are no formal assessments required as part of this continuers course, students will be awarded with a York College certificate upon completion.

All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, some courses may require additional study from home, you may need access to a PC/laptop and suitable Wi-Fi to access teaching and learning. You will be made aware of any additional study time at the time of enrolment.
Students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.
We plan to run an Advanced Spanish course for those who would like to learn more, if there is sufficient demand, starting in September 2022.
You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge in Spanish to help you progress and develop in a number of job opportunities to suit your personal needs and interests.
