NCFE Level 2 Award in Creative Crafts (Furniture Making)
This course is a great opportunity to progress from the Level 1 Award in Creative Crafts (Furniture Making) course. You will have the opportunity to develop your existing skills and knowledge by designing and making a piece of furniture.
The course allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in furniture making, or for your own personal interests.
You will have the opportunity to build on your existing knowledge about woodworking techniques, design methods and the skills needed to make furniture by hand. This will lead to an opportunity to make a simple dining chair, which you can take home at the end of the course.
Entry requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, a genuine interest in the subject and outstanding commitment and enthusiasm is essential.
This flexible qualification is suitable for anyone of any age wanting to further their existing skills and knowledge in furniture making. Some existing skills of furniture making or completion of the Level 1 course is desirable.
Course units
A range of basic skills and techniques will be introduced to enable you to produce a finished piece of furniture by the end of the course.
Assessments
This qualification is delivered through a range of practical units. Working in our well-equipped workshops you will practice and develop furniture making skills using hand and power tools. Units are assessed using practical assignments linked to your furniture project. In addition, you will complete written tasks to evidence your furniture making and craft knowledge.

Course progression
Individuals that have completed Levels 1 and 2 will have gained a good understanding of furniture making, which will give them confidence to continue developing their skills at home. For others it could be stepping stone to progress in a wide range of jobs within furniture manufacturing or the construction industry.
During this course you will also be developing your numeracy and literacy through the use of drawings, specifications and accurate measuring.

Study methods
This course will be delivered by qualified and experienced tutors who are experts in their disciplines. Teaching will be done in a practical setting which will allow you to spend the time using the tools and resources safely and effectively.

As well as specialist construction workshops, students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.
Additional costs
All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, some courses may require additional study from home, you may need access to a PC/laptop and suitable Wi-Fi to access teaching and learning. You will be made aware of any additional study time at the time of enrolment.
Career progression
Students will be equipped with the skills and knowledge required to progress in their current employment or enter employment in the construction industry. You may also have the option to transfer to an apprenticeship and then progress on to higher-level courses in construction.
