This course is suitable for those wanting to gain an understanding of how to build Reports and dashboards using Power BI Desktop. Business Intelligence techniques such as data modelling, manipulation, and calculation to visualise data gathered from corporate data sources such as Excel are covered as well as publishing the finished Report to Power BI Online to share with others. Attendees should have a basic understanding of using business programs such as Excel and other Office programs.

This course is delivered over 1 day from 9.30am to 4.30pm

  • Introduction, Outline & Objectives
  • Power BI Terminology - Data Sources, DataSets, Fields, Measures, Tiles Visualisations, Pages and Reports
  • Power BI Process - Connecting to Data, Manipulating and Modelling Data, Creating Visualisations on the Report Page, Formatting and Filtering Visualisations, Creating and Publishing Reports in Power BI

Getting Data

  • Connecting to File based Data - Connecting to Excel Spreadsheets, Access Databases, Text Files
  • Connecting to Service based Data - Cloud Based Data Sources (OData), SharePoint Lists, Other Web Sources

Query Editing (desktop only)

  • Data Manipulations - Column Transformations, Using Query Editor, Grouping within Columns, Appending Queries, Adding Custom Columns, Advanced Query Editing, Transforming Unstructured Data, Unpivoting Column Data, Applied Steps, Closing and Applying Changes
