York College is delighted to announce that it has been selected to participate in the T Level Industry Placement Pilot (Capacity Delivery Fund). This course has been selected to take part in the pilot for this academic year allowing us to offer Industry Placements to any student enrolling onto this course.

The Work Placement Team will be in touch in due course with further details. In the meantime, you can access further work placement information by visiting our web page Work Placements Advice.

If you have any questions you can contact the Work Placement Team on 01904 770830 or placements@yorkcollege.ac.uk.

This course is aimed at adults who wish to further extend their skills in Beauty Therapy. (Students must hold a Beauty Therapy Level 2 qualification prior to enrolling on the Level 3). The course will include a substantial amount of home study to meet the demands of the qualification, therefore, students must be able to allocate time at home to complete these activities in addition to attending College two nights a week. Regular attendance each week is vital for successful completion.

Students will learn the skills required to qualify as Beauty / Spa Therapist at level 3. Whilst lessons are predominantly practical-based, there will be elements of theory covered during the sessions which will require further study at home.

Course Modules/units

Students will be required to complete the units below to gain the qualification:

  • Body Massage
  • Indian Head Massage
  • Hot / Cold stone massage
  • Facial Electrotherapy treatments
  • Body Electrotherapy treatments
  • Client Care and Communication
  • Health and Safety
  • Promotion of products and services

Entry Requirements

Students will need to demonstrate enthusiasm and interest in the subject and have a genuine desire to both provide and receive Beauty Therapy treatments. This course requires students to follow a strict dress code. For reasons concerned with health and safety students must tie up long hair (so that it is off the face and neck), remove ALL jewellery and piercings and keep nails short and product free. Students will be required to stand for long periods of time. Whilst treatments can be relaxing to receive, providing some treatments (massage for example) can be physically demanding. Certain medical conditions are contraindicated to treatment (please seek further guidance from the tutor).

Students generally require a minimum of three GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade D/3 or higher to gain entry to the course. Mature students may be exempt from this requirement if they have appropriate work experience/life skills or additional qualifications. In addition to this, students must also already have achieved a level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification (or have suitable salon experience).
