The course is comprised of three units that together provide an excellent grounding in using IT in the workplace. The course focusses on the use of a range of practical applications to improve workplace productivity whilst addressing how to work safely in the modern online world. Once successfully completed there is the opportunity to progress from the Award to the Certificate.

This course will be delivered at Campus@Northallerton.

Who is this course aimed at

The suite of ITQ qualifications aims to equip individuals with the IT user skills needed for full participation in employment and society. This course aims to build on existing IT skills in preparing learners for the modern, digitised workplace. The suite of ITQ qualifications recognises employers’ needs for ICT qualifications that reflect real-world skills, and the challenges of work-place learning.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Students on this course are to be 19+ in age.

  • IT user fundamentals
  • Internet safety for IT users

Skills you will develop

  • Skills in the use of a range of office based IT applications
  • Use of online and collaborative technologies
  • Use of digital communications technologies

Course dates

This course is delivered over 10 weeks (2 x afternoons or 2 x evenings per week. Possible blended delivery option with tutor support available).

Afternoon option: 2 afternoons 13.00-16.00

Evening option: 2 evenings 18.00-21.00

Method of delivery

This could will be delivered out of our Northallerton campus. The course is primarily taught as a classroom-based course but there may be occasions when a more blended approach utilising virtual lessons is used. Lessons offer a balance of knowledge and skills-based learning utilising industry standard hardware and software. Students are advised that to successfully complete the course they should have access to an up to date, internet enabled PC at home. Access to PC’s will be available on site if required.

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed using a portfolio of evidence with students achieving a Pass if successful.

As business and industry become increasingly reliant on digital technologies there is a need for employees to be digital literate and competent. This qualification offers and excellent grounding for anyone looking to develop their career in businesses or industries that require digital competence.

Successful completion of this course would also allow you to progress onto the Level 2 IT Users (ITQ) Award, Certificate or Diploma.

This course is co-funded for those eligible - £252.

Additional costs

Every attempt is made to use open source/free software on the course however, students need to be aware that licenses for some software may need to be purchased.
