Introduction to Pattern Drafting

Subject Area
Art & Design
Start Date
September 2022
Study Mode
Evening
Duration
10 Weeks
Entry Requirements
Basic machine sewing skills are desirable. No pattern cutting experience is required.

This course will introduce the core skills of pattern drafting, which will enable you to draft your own basic bodice block (hourglass or straight fit) to create simple patterns.

If students have a sewing machine at home, they should tell their tutor on the first evening; while sewing machines are available for use, it is very helpful for students to use their own domestic machine and will enable you to familiarise yourself with your own equipment.

You will be guided through how to create your own personalised pattern block and the various techniques which will enable you to alter a bodice and sleeve block (non-stretch). By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Draft a bodice block to your own measurements
