Higher Education Takeover - Media Make-up, Special Effects & Hair Design

This taster session is for those interested in studying Foundation Degree (FD) Media Make-up, Special Effects & Hair Design. Progression routes after this include our BA (Hons) Media Make-up, Special Effects & Hair Design (Top-up).

In this session, you'll meet the tutors and observe a range of demonstrations, before taking part in a media make-up taster session.

The Foundation Degree in Media Make-up, Special Effects and Hair Design is exclusive in its training provision, by delivering comprehensive training in all the skillsets required by a make-up artist to work in television, film and theatre.

The Media Make-up department has recently received a full refurbishment of all of its workshops to provide state of the art facilities. The new prosthetics workroom contains its own mixing room for larger prosthetics work, featuring excellent ventilation technology to assure the health and safety of all students working with prosthetics materials and equipment.

In addition to the prosthetics suites, the department also has a new wig room containing over 30 human hair wigs, these are replenished every 3 years to provide the optimal results within the period hair and wig modules.

The course not only offers the popular subjects in prosthetics, but also wig mastery, period hairdressing and advanced make-up techniques all of which open new and exciting employment opportunities of their own.

The role of the make-up artist for film and television will see you create an array of looks, from classic elegance to full body prosthetics and SFX. This course will allow for the development of a number of skills, whilst encouraging students to express their own individual identity and creativity.
