Level 2 City & Guilds Awards in Bookkeeping & Accounts
This course is aimed for people at work, self-employed or individuals wanting to enter the accounting profession. This course is a great taster for those who have no accounts experience and those curious about what higher-level courses might involve.
This qualification delivers the skills and essential knowledge to manage books effectively. It includes manual double entry bookkeeping, and associated documents and processes, up to Trial Balance standard.
The aim of the qualification is to develop the introductory book-keeping practices and processes to enable candidates to adjust ledger accounts to take account of activities at the trial balance date which affect the production of an accurate trading, profit and loss account and balance sheet.
Entry requirements
Good numeracy skills are required and a keen interest in working with numbers. You don’t need any previous finance experience to enrol. You should be aged over 19 before the start of your course.
If you have a criminal record or have been made bankrupt, professional organisations may not accept you as members. Please contact the applicable professional body membership team directly for more advice if this is relevant to you.
Course units
This qualification delivers the skills and essential knowledge to manage books effectively. It includes manual double entry bookkeeping, and associated documents and processes, up to Trial Balance standard.
This qualification can be used as a fast track route to the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting. It includes following skills:
- Check and correct errors arising from inaccurate/incomplete/missing entries in the ledger and day books
- Provide for depreciation of fixed assets using ledger accounts
- Account for accruals, prepayments, bad debts and provide for doubtful debts
- Prepare individual accounts in purchase and sales ledgers
- Prepare purchase ledger control accounts and sales ledger control accounts
- Complete an extended trial balance
Assessments
Candidates will be required to complete a City & Guilds set and marked test. This will consist of a number of practical tasks.

Course progression
This qualification can also open up a choice of great careers, as well as providing educational and training progress on to the City & Guilds Level 3 Bookkeeping or AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.

All materials are provided for you to complete the course. However, some courses may require additional study from home, you may need access to a PC/laptop and suitable Wi-Fi to access teaching and learning. You will be made aware of any additional study time at the time of enrolment.

On campus delivery means you benefit from regular College classes, an experienced college tutor will discuss and reinforce what you have learnt and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment.
