Beginners German (Unit 1 - Term 1)
This course is suitable for people with no previous knowledge of German who would like to be able to speak and understand the basics when they are on holiday or travelling for work.
Students will learn to understand and use a limited range of basic communication skills in German for use in familiar situations, such as being on holiday or travelling for work.
The course has various useful and helpful topics which may include:
- Introducing yourself & talking about family
- Talking about where you're from
- What you do for a living
- Ordering food and drink in a bar
- Handling money and general shopping
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification and students can be complete beginners, however, we do also welcome people with a little experience of speaking German.

The course consists of work in the classroom and will be taught with a focus on listening, understanding and speaking with some reading and writing. An equivalent time spent on personal study at home may be beneficial to students.
There are no formal assessments required as part of this beginner’s course, students will be awarded with a York College certificate upon completion.

Students have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.
Students who successfully complete term 1 of the beginner’s German qualification may progress onto the Level 1 Unit 2.
You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge in basic German to help you progress and develop in a number of job opportunities to suit your personal needs and interests.
