Entry Requirements
You do not need previous knowledge of Adobe Illustrator. However, good computer skills are a requirement of the course - if your computer skills are limited then this course may not be for you. Please speak to one of our advisors if you are unsure.

This course is suitable for those would like to learn the basics of Adobe Illustrator and how to use it in a variety of different design applications.

You will be taught through a series of tutorials demonstrated by the tutor in class (all tutorials have a detailed step by step document). You will be taken through a series of drawing tasks which can be used for a variety of different outcomes.

You will also have access to documents and tutorials via Teams at home.

Course units

After an initial introduction to the software, the course will cover:

Using Drawing tools to create basic shapes and designs

Introduction to the Type tools

Creating colour palettes, working with Pantones and HEX codes

Experimenting with Fill, Texture and Pattern

Developing your own designs/artwork

Assessments

There will be no test/examination associated with this course and students will be able to work at their own pace.

Completion of this course will enable students to progress on to various other Art & Design courses available at York College & University Centre.

Study methods

This course is classroom-based with a mixture of whole class demonstration and individual one-to-one help.

Should you wish to practice at home in your own time, you will need to have access to your own Adobe® Creative Cloud licence for Illustrator, which is what will be used to teach this course.

Facilities

Students will have access to a suite of Apple Macintosh computers with industry leading software. If learners prefer they can use their own laptop computers and Adobe Illustrator software if they wish.

You will also have access to a fantastic range of College-wide facilities such as the Learning & Research Centre, study hubs, computer areas with accompanying multi-function printers and helpdesk advice.

You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge in Adobe Illustrator to experiment with creating your own artwork and designs.
