Stage One, a leading construction and manufacturing company for the creative industries based in Tockwith, are excited to announce that two of their Apprentice team members have completed their studies and are joining the company as fully qualified creative industry professionals.
Rebecca Carlton from the Scenic department started her Apprenticeship with York College in 2017, specialising in Painting & Decorating. Most of her classmates were following the traditional route of domestic and commercial decoration and Rebecca was more interested in the creative industries – she was a perfect match for Stage One’s scenic department. Rebecca’s time as an Apprentice has been a mix of exams at the College and projects at Stage One. Rebecca says her favourite part has been: “Learning different techniques such as Concrete Effects and Scenic Texture has been great. It’s been really different to what other people on my course have been doing, but it’s been a great fit for me as I want to work in the creative industries.’
Jack Davy from Stage One’s Woodshop started his Level 3 Apprenticeship with York College in 2016, specialising in Bench Joinery. Jack has learned a lot in his three years at Stage One and recognises that the people and the culture are some of his favourite parts of the role. The balance between his studies at College and practical experience at Stage One mean he is now in a great position to develop his career even further. Learning and developing his skillset in traditional joinery, carpentry, health and safety and theory has given him the foundation he needs to build a varied and successful career, but it hasn’t been without its challenges. As with all Apprenticeships, balancing a busy schedule at College with exams, coursework and work based practice can be a lot to take on, but Jack says he has felt supported by his team members.
Ruth Axall, Stage One HR Manager, says: “We are proud of what Rebecca and Jack have achieved, they are already part of our Stage One family along with all the Apprentices working at Stage One. We look forward to celebrating next year with four more individuals completing their Apprenticeships and we are excited to be recruiting more Apprentices this year. A huge well done to Jack and Rebecca, we’re really glad to have them on board as fully qualified team members!”
