Former York College A Level student Alice Bates, has been offered a place to study BA (Hons) Textiles at Edinburgh College of Art, she says: “The course influenced my university choice massively. During my A Levels I thought I’d go down the photography and film-making path, however, from completing the Foundation I found I enjoyed hands on, practical tasks more than digital and realised a digital-based career wouldn’t make me as happy as textiles would. I loved that I had the time to find my style of work and had the time and facilities to learn printing methods in particular. I've also loved being surrounded by like-minded people who understand the importance of the creative arts.”

Lizzy Henson, formerly of Fulford School, has also been offered a place at Edinburgh College of Art. She says of the course: “It developed my skills and viewpoint as an artist. Having both my parents work as practicing artists, meant I am constantly surrounded and inspired by the art around me. Throughout the year my tutors offered advice and guidance as to which university would be most suited to me and where I would be able to thrive."

George Hickey, hopes to utilise his skills gained from the Foundation Diploma as he progresses onto the BA (Hons) Graphic Design at Northumbria University. Speaking of his biggest influences George says: “This course has given me opportunities to experiment with different specialisms within art, helping me to decide that graphic design is what I want to do. From a young age I have enjoyed art in general, my interest in graphic design stems from a trip to London when I was introduced to the tube and Harry Becks map of the underground. Since seeing this I have been interested in designing posters and similar images.”

Jasmine Howard, a former Scarborough Sixth Form student has been offered a place at the esteemed Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (Lipa) to study BA (Hons) Theatre and Performance Design after specialising in 3D in costume design.

Angus Polkey will continue his art and design studies at the University of Dundee. He says “I have had an interest in drawing since I was a kid and since this course I have been able to develop my skills further and branch out and try difference areas within art”

Both Kerensa Murray and Hollie Palmer specialised in Fine Art. Kerensa has been offered a place to study the subject at Central Saint Martins and Hollie at Falmouth University. A piece of work focusing on the coast and places with an industrial past led Hollie to consider studying at university in Falmouth, while Kerensa credits the contextual studies element of the course for preparing her for work in the industry in the future.

Speaking of this year’s students, Angela Newdick, Course Leader for the Art & Design Foundation Diploma says “This year has been another great year for students successfully gaining places at universities up and down the country, from Dundee down to Falmouth and everywhere in between. We feel it is important that students have complete freedom in selecting the university that is right for them and we offer as much guidance as possible to help them make that decision. We are delighted to say that all students who applied to university were successful in obtaining places, with many being selected by prestigious, and often difficult to get into, destinations. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our current students who have studied on the course this year and wish them well for whatever they do in the future – it really has been a great year and one that we will all fondly remember.”
