Congratulations to CITB stonemasonry apprentice Kristian Valente who, after competing in Squad selection at Bath College in February, has been successful in getting through to the training for the WorldSkills UK Squad alongside two other stonemasonry apprentices from Bath and Weymouth.

Kristian (aged 19) from Holmfirth, is a CITB stonemasonry apprentice employed by Mono Masonry in Oldham, Manchester, studying Level 3 Stonemasonry at York College.

Stonemasonry tutor, Paul Hill, chose Kristian to attend the initial Squad Selection and since then Kristian has been to WorldSkills Bootcamp, held at Loughborough University, where he took part in team building activities designed to help individuals cope with the pressures of the high profile competition.

Leading up to February next year, Kristian will attend a series of training sessions where he will be assessed and judged by stonemasonry experts. The judges will decide if he has done enough to earn a coveted place on the WorldSkills SquadUK, bound for Kazan, Russia, in November 2019. Only one, out of the three stonemasonry trainees, will be selected for the national team.

Before the WorldSkills competition, there is also a chance that Kristian could be selected for the EuroSkills competition taking place in Budapest, Hungary in September this year.

Kristian says: “I am excited to take on the challenge and will do my best to gain selection for SquadUK, for both WorldSkills and/or EuroSkills. It is a fabulous opportunity and I would like to thank my College tutor and my employer for their support.”
