Each year the Company of Merchant Taylors support York College students who study arts-related courses by awarding Creative Bursaries. The Awards, given to deserving individuals, help students to develop their talents and achieve their ambitions.

Philippa Lester, Master of the Company of Merchant Taylors, visited the College to present the Creative Bursary Awards 2017 to specially nominated students who have fully embraced their studies in Music, Media and Performing Arts, Art, Design & Craft or Construction. This year the following students were awarded a Creative Bursary by the Company of Merchant Taylors:

Art, Design & Craft

Ameillia Franks – progressing to Leeds College of Art to study Fine Art
Bella McEvoy – progressing to Kingston University to study Illustration
Iona Stock – progressing to Sunderland University to study Glass and Ceramics
Jacob Lane – progressing to Northumbria University to study Graphic Design

Music, Media and Performing Arts

Harvey Hyde – progressing to Level 3 Creative Media at York College
James Brown – progressing to Leeds Beckett University to study Music Production
James Rosati - taking a gap year then progressing to university to study Music for Film
Oliver Howland – progressing to Huddersfield University to study Music
Patrick Clowes – progressing to either Leeds Beckett or Huddersfield University to study Music
Jemma Rayner - progressing to East 15 drama school in London


Guy Donnelly - has made a career change from computer-related work to study to become a stonemason 

Phillipa Lester, Master of The Company of Merchant Taylors said: “The Company of Merchant Taylors is delighted to continue the tradition of supporting York College students who have a passion for a wide range of arts and crafts. Well done to all the award winners whose creative skills have been encouraged and developed by the College. It is so pleasing to see them progress and we want them to make the most of their creative talents and enjoy the wonderful opportunities that await them."
