Congratulations to the CITB construction apprentices who excelled at the regional Skillbuild competition held at Leeds College of Building on 23rd June 2017. Amongst them were brothers Alex and Charles Young from Knottingley.
The Results:
Bricklaying Senior competition
Charles Young (aged 21), Level 3 Bricklaying apprentice, employed by IR Young & Sons, Knottingley - 1st place
Lewis Greenwood (aged 19) formerly of Tadcaster Grammar School, Level 3 Bricklaying apprentice, employed by PDS Construction,Wetherby - 2nd place (in the week prior, Lewis also came first in the Senior category of the regional Guild of Bricklayers competition).
Bricklaying Junior competition
Alex Young (aged 23), Level 2 Bricklaying apprentice, employed by IR Young & Sons - 3rd place
Painting & Decorating Senior competition
Katie Cammidge (aged 19) formerly of York High School, Level 3 Painting and Decorating apprentice, employed by Novus in York - 3rd place
The next stage of the competition will see Charles Young competing in the Skillbuild final, held at Birmingham NEC at the end of the year. Depending on points, Lewis Greenwood may also be selected to compete.
York College Bricklaying tutor, Harpal Sambhi, said: “It was a tough regional round and all our apprentices worked hard, under pressure, to showcase their skills. They produced high quality work and deserved their places. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the SkillBuild final.”
