Students studying Fashion at York College presented their colourful creations on the catwalk at The Principal York hotel as a finalé to their BA (Hons) Fashion Design & Production and Extended Diploma in Fashion & Clothing courses.

The Fashion Show featured group collections from all fashion courses:

  • Extended Diploma in Fashion and Clothing (Year 1): 60s inspired live project in collaboration with North Yorkshire Railway 60s Festival weekend
  • Extended Diploma in Fashion and Clothing (Year 2): 1920s inspired final collections
  • BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Production (Year 1): A project inspired by personal relationships with nature and a celebration of all things 60s, in collaboration with The Company of Cordwainers of the city of York
  • BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Production (Year 2): A project inspired by identity and the Shaping the Body exhibition at the Castle Museum, in collaboration with The York Museums Trust 
  • BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Production: Individual collections by final year students included inspirations from themes such as Women in War, The Shire, Body Dismorphia, Freedom and Liberation, Circus Illusion and Numbers

Marie Neal-Smith, Fashion tutor at York College comments: “This year’s Fashion Show featured collections inspired by broad ranging themes, many of them carrying messages which reflect the happenings in our society. The fabrics and silhouettes are diverse, creative and often unconventional in the combinations they are presented in.”

The Company of Merchant Taylors of the City of York BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Production Best Collection Award:

First Prize - Sabrina Wharton-Brown (The Shire Collection)

Second Prize - Lucy Sherwood (Seven Nevers Collection)
