A very successful weekend was had by two York College students who represented Yorkshire and Humberside at the Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport National Championships in Nottingham.
First year Level 3 Sport students Chris Lythe (previously of Ripon Grammar School) and Josh Bayliss (previously of Wetherby High School) represented the county in Badminton and Tennis respectively, competing to help the region be crowned winners of the Wilkinson Sword and gain the title of Best AoC Region for Sport 2016/17.
Over the course of the National Championship weekend, Chris and Josh competed in a gruelling three day schedule which saw them tested both physically and mentally against eight other regional teams competing to be crowned the best region in their sporting discipline.
Chris, who previously gained the title of Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Champion at the AoC Regional Championship, continued his impressive form by dropping only two games all weekend and played an integral part in the Yorkshire and Humberside Badminton team securing Gold.
Josh on the other hand, had previously missed out on automatic selection but in a twist of fate, due to another student being unable to represent the region, he got his lucky break. Josh and his teammates maintained high standards against tough opposition throughout the weekend to successfully secure Bronze for the Yorkshire and Humberside Tennis team.
The students have already set their sights on next year’s finals and aim to ensure they are in a position to head back to the Championships and help Yorkshire and Humberside to be crowned National Champions.
