York College AS Level Geography students have been out and about in Leeds as part of their Contemporary Urban Environments module.
Seven Swiss students were recently involved in a fieldwork project where they spent several days collecting both quantitative and qualitative data in Harehills and Alwoodley in order to draw contrasts between the two. The group then used their results, as well as various demographic characteristics, to compile a report of their findings.
A notable encounter occurred when the group met Rajinder the co-owner of ‘Bobby’s Sweets’ in Harehills, a shop serving all manner of Indian cuisine. One of the students, Sara Oliveira Da Mota, said: “Visiting the neighbourhoods was very interesting and helped us to better understand the differences in the areas; we learnt a lot by talking to local people like Rajinder”.
