The Art & Design Division at York College was delighted to see more than twenty recent graduates exhibiting their work at the high profile Art Market event held at York Racecourse (31st September – 2nd October 2016).  York’s largest public art and craft show attracted over 3,500 visitors and provided a fantastic opportunity for artists, old and new, to showcase their work.

Amongst the exhibitors was former BA (Hons) Contemporary Craft student Luke Thackeray who was selected by the Arts Council of Great Britain for the RAW programme, a funding initiative to support new artists. Luke makes animal sculptures and his most recent collection of Irish deerhounds made a huge impact on visitors to the York Art Market. Luke is employed by Paragon Creative in Elvington where he is currently making a monumental hand for a Hunger Games theme park in the Middle East.

Other students who exhibited at the Arts Market included Rudo Bolcar who is currently completing a work placement at Paragon Creative where he is sculpting life size animal models for a national museum in Dubai – the entire project is worth £20 million. York College is delighted to have several graduates working at the York based company.
