8th June 2016
The York College annual VQ Student of the Year Awards, held in the College atrium, recognised individual students for their high achievement, motivation and hard work on a wide range of vocational courses during the 2015/16 academic year.
The award winning students were presented with a VQ Student of the Year certificate and prize by guest of honour Bob Watson MBE, retired teacher and Director of the Sobriety Project in Goole.
Alison Birkinshaw, Principal of York College said: “Our Vocational awards evening is a very special occasion when we celebrate the success of our remarkable vocational students. Vocational qualifications are extremely important locally and nationally and provide students with the necessary skills and qualifications they need to succeed in the future. Many hundreds of our students also progress onto higher levels of education and training and continue to study either with us or at university.
“At York College we offer over eighty full-time vocational programmes and our results are in the top 13% nationally for 16-18 year olds for Further Education Colleges. Large numbers of our past vocational students are now extremely successful – whether as actors working with the BBC and major theatre companies, or as chefs, artists or designers, IT coders or in software development, or working with key construction and engineering firms, or in a wide variety of other careers. I congratulate all our Vocational students on their achievements and wish them the very best in their future careers. We are very proud of them and what they have achieved during their time with us.”
