Flags and face painting were in abundance when Norwegian students at York College celebrated their National Day at a special lunch in Ashfields restaurant. Some students even wore national costumes to mark the occasion, feeling proud to represent their home country at College.
Currently 85 Norwegian students study courses at York College. They are very much enjoying living and studying in the UK, especially in the historic city of York. However, each student is reminded of their families at home in Norway on Norwegian Day.
Student Helle Hagen dressed in her national costume to mark the special day. She said: “I am patriotic and it’s lovely to have an excuse to wear our national costume at College on Norwegian Day. It is very kind of the College to arrange this lunch - it has given us Norwegian students a chance to get together and talk about our families at home. It is very much appreciated. We are also looking forward to celebrating with more Norwegian students from the two York universities in York this evening.”
