The latest news from talented musicians in the Music Division at York College is that numerous students from the A Level Music and Music Technology courses and the Extended Diploma Music course have been successful in securing places to study music at several conservatoires and top universities up and down the country.
The Music Development Centre students, from across the Music department, participate in a variety of opportunities and experiences, studying all genres of music. Each student has one to one instrumental or vocal tuition and enjoys performing in concerts in and out of College. So far this year they have taken part in composition workshops at York St John University, performed for local schools and in a range of concerts in the College’s Alan Ayckbourn Theatre. They have also been inspired by trips to see The Hallé Orchestra and the European Union Baroque Orchestra.
As the year progresses there are more performance opportunities to look forward to, including students working with the elderly in a series of music workshops at Morrell House in York and participation in a masterclass at Leeds College of Music, led by acclaimed jazz guitarists Stuart McCallum and Mike Walker.
York College music students will showcase their performance skills in a Musical Soirée at Bedern Hall in March, perform their A Level Recitals at the National Centre for Early Music in April and celebrate their musical experiences in a summer show in Rowntree Park in June.
