15th January 2016
Congratulations to two teams of hospitality students who have successfully made it through to the regional heat of the Nestlé Professional Toque d’Or 2016 catering and hospitality competition.
This most prestigious competition attracts over 150 entries from colleges in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It motivates and inspires catering students, provides exciting challenges to get the very best out of students, and is renowned for promoting the highest industry standards.
Having got through the paper entry round, where students had ninety minutes to answer 25 multiple choice questions, plus a question on introducing healthy eating to a fine dining restaurant, both teams are now through to the final 36 in the regional round. The regional competition (taking place between 2nd – 11th February in either Birmingham, London or Glasgow) will consist of a master class, after which students will prepare an eight cover lunch service.
With three students in each team, the two York College teams are made up of the following students:
• Josh Phillips, Nicky Simpson and Lauren Whittaker
• Kevin Pratt, Lauren Shillito and Ellen Wardle
Karen Horsman, Team Leader for Catering and Hospitality at York College comments: “It is an achievement to get one team through the initial round of the Nestlé Toque d’Or Competition, let alone two teams! The competition will give our students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and gain a wealth of experience. We are over the moon that both York College teams have got this far and we wish them well as the competition progresses.”
