Business students at York College used their expertise to support The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan’s Cancer Support, raising a fantastic £1,095.25. They attributed their fundraising efforts to two different modules on the Extended Diploma Business course; Developing Teams in Business and Managing a Business Event.
Held in Ashfields, the College’s training restaurant, the students masterminded a plan to serve up tasty bacon sandwiches and a large selection of cakes, as well as a takeaway and meal-deal option for the staff and students who had little time to enjoy a coffee stop. They also offered customers an impressive raffle, with prizes donated by local businesses.
Students Jonathan Ingle and Georgina Hall, both formerly of Woldgate School, commented: “Our group split into individual teams, each having responsibility for different elements of the event. Using marketing theory that we learned in the classroom, our role was to market and promote the coffee morning. We want to progress to university and work in business and this has been a valuable learning experience - we have used our knowledge in a practical way. We are really pleased that we have helped to raise over £1,000 for Macmillan, it's a charity close to people’s hearts.”
