Construction students at York College met with local construction suppliers at a special event in the College’s brand new Construction & Skills Centre.
Brickwork, joinery and plumbing students met with representatives from leading construction suppliers; Screwfix, Dewalt power tools, Suretape, the frog tape company, Hep2o Plumbing Fittings and Liberon, the wood treatment company, to see demonstrations and learn about their products and services.
Edward Bellhouse, formerly of York High School and Liam Rawcliffe, formerly of Canon Lee Specialist Arts College, are second year students studying the Level 1 diploma in Preparation for Employment in the Construction Industry. They commented: "It's a good event. Finding out about different suppliers and their products will be useful when we start work properly."
Kevin Clancy, Head of Division for Construction at York College commented: “This was the first promotional event to be held in our new purpose built Centre, which opened to students at the start of term. Having local suppliers available to talk about their work really helped to give our students an insight into how different trades work with suppliers. We look forward to more business related events coming up in the next month or so, including a free Bacon Butty Business Breakfast on 21st October which takes in a special tour of the new Construction & Skills Centre. Any local construction companies who would like to join us should contact the College’s Business Development Unit on 01904 770368.
