This year every student coming to the end of the Extended Diploma Production Arts (Backstage Arts) course has secured a place at top drama schools and universities to further their studies. All students are progressing to higher level courses and will forge careers behind the scenes in the performing arts industry.

The individual students and their destinations:

Sam Walker, formerly of Graham School Scarborough, will study Sound Design at The Central School of Speech and Drama

Jordan Bell, formerly of Manor C of E Academy, will study Creative Lighting Control at Rose Bruford College

Ian Murphy, a mature student, has secured an unconditional place at both RADA and ALRA to study Stage Management and Technical

Tom Pitchers, formerly of Manor C of E Academy, has secured unconditional places at RADA and at Bristol Old Vic, he has chosen to study Stage Management and Technical at Bristol Old Vic

Ben Staples, formerly of Easingwold School, will study Live Events at the Backstage Academy

Matt Hildreth-, formerly of Manor C of E Academy, will study Audio at SSR in Manchester

Becky Cornes, Production Arts tutor at York College says: “These students have worked tirelessly on College productions, not only designing and constructing the scenery and props, but designing the lighting and audio, operating the lighting and audio, and stage managing the whole show from technical and dress rehearsals to the performance itself. In addition to their roles on productions at York College, they have also worked on external productions to enhance their learning and knowledge and have spent lots of time working on their portfolios and personal statements for UCAS. Their hard work has paid off and we are very proud of them. The department wishes them the best of luck for their future studies and career progression.”
