Two students studying Construction at York College recently participated in the Guild of Bricklayers regional bricklaying competition at Bishop Burton College.
Charlie Young, previously of Sherburn High School who is studying a Level 2 Diploma in Trowel Apprenticeship was as a competitor in the junior section of the competition whilst Thomas Macdonald previously of Huntington High School and studying Level 3 Diploma in Trowel Occupations competed in the senior section. They were supported by classmate Ryan Baines, previously of Millthorpe School who is also studying Level 3 Diploma Trowel Occupations and works for Barratt Homes. He attended the competition to gain experience in preparation for entering the next round of SkillBuild competitions.
Said Harpal Sambhi, Construction Tutor at York College; "Thomas, entered the competition not expecting to win and he has worked hard, practicing different techniques which he really took on board. He was thrilled to bits when he won and he is looking forward to the national final. Tom's employer Woodhouse Barry and his family, as well as his tutors, are really delighted of the news."
Congratulations to Charlie, who came second and Thomas, who came first in their respective sections. Thomas has been invited to the national final at Leeds College of Building - we wish him lots of luck.
