York College has secured funding from The European Union through the ERASMUS+ to allow tutors from the Business, Hospitality, and Tourism Divisions at York College to work with partners in Spain on a project aimed at developing Continuous Professional Development.
The project partners are based in Seville and include a number of state and business funded schools and colleges, the city of Seville Economic Development Unit, the chamber of commerce of Seville and Seville and Andalucia Tourism Consortium. The collaborative project will address specific needs of individual members of staff and develop plans to create responsive provisions to meet the needs and challenges of local, regional, national and international vocational training and deal with social-cultural diversity.
The visit to Seville will involve staff across the divisions in shadowing activities, working with key business personnel working on Seville’s Business and Economic strategic plan and visiting the Seville Tourism Consortium. The project will afford staff the opportunity to establish collaborative working relationships with European partner organisations and to visit the top hotel complexes and Seville’s business conference centre.
Says Salvatore Petruso, Head of Division for Business, Hospitality and Tourism: “This will be a first-class staff development opportunity made possible through European funding for Vocational Educational Training and the Erasmus+ programme, which will increase the value of training in college for the benefit of the local business community. It will contribute to the development of innovative planning and delivery of our curriculum and educational methods, our pedagogies. I am sure in the long term staff will benefit from the experience which in turn will enhance the learning experience for students at York College.”
