York College Fashion students showcased their creations on the catwalk as a finale to their Extended Diploma and BA (Hons) Fashion Design and Production courses.
The Fashion Show matinee for a local school audience, and an evening show, held at York Racecourse (Knavesmire Stand), featured collections from all final year students:
• Extended Diploma in Fashion and Clothing (Year 1): a group dress project inspired by Diane Von Furstenberg’s summer 2015 collection, sponsored by Fletchers Fabrics of York
• Extended Diploma in Fashion and Clothing (Year 2): a bird inspired jersey dress collection titled Flock Together
• BA (Hons) in Fashion Design and Production (Year 1): a leather project inspired and sponsored by the Cordwainers of York
• BA (Hons) in Fashion Design and Production (Year 2): a collection inspired by the ceramics of Felicity Aylieff at York Art Gallery
Individual collections by final year BA (Hons) students included themes such as Urban Decay, the town of Knaresborough and the Yorkshire woollen industry. the Fashioning Winter Exhibition at Somerset House inspired collections by Extended Diploma students.
Fashion tutors Marie Neal-Smith and Tara Berridge commented: “Our Fashion Design students have once again worked very hard to produce collections of garments which reflect creativity and technical skill. They have shown immense commitment and dedication, enthusiasm and strength of character in working towards the show.”
