Young entrepreneurs studying a BA (Hons) degree in Fashion Design and Production at York College participated in the Young Merchants Market held at the Merchant Adventurers Hall in York.
The market was aimed at young entrepreneurs (aged under 30) and final year students Emily Morris, Emily Shilito, Racheal Askey, Joanne Roberts and Monica Ip took the opportunity to promote their fashion collections and they enjoyed organising an impromptu flashmob.
Student Jo Roberts, formerly of All Saints RC School, said: “We found it interesting talking to other exhibitors and visitors and we received some lovely comments about our work. It was also a very useful networking exercise for us.”
Fashion tutor Marie Neal-Smith said: The girls did an great job putting their exhibition stand together and organising all aspects of the promotion. Importantly their hard work will contribute towards the Professional Practice module of their degree course. Thanks must also go to Foundation Degree Media Make-up students Abbi Curry, Catherine Buglass, Ashleigh Behan and Laura Carole who styled the models on the day and to A Level Photography student Alec Aarons who provided the photography from the event.”
A quote from the visitor’s comment book said: “All of the design work was very well thought out. I would love to see future works and possibly buy something from one of the collections”
