Extended Diploma Production Arts (Backstage Arts) students from York College went head to head against several other colleges in a competition to light up steam and diesel locomotives at the National Railway Museum in York.
The York College team came second in the competition with their adaptation of a train spotter's story though the medium of light. Categories they considered when devising their installations included; conservation, energy and object communication.
Nick Schneider, Learning Assistant for Media and Performing Arts at York College said: "This was a great experience for the students. They were part of a real working environment with access to the latest technology courtesy of Pulsar Lighting and Grand MA Consoles who kindly donated half a million pounds worth of equipment."
This is the sixth year the College and the NRM have been part of the city's successful Illuminating York festival with their spectacular, 'Locos in a Different Light' display, allowing visitors to experience the theatrical lighting, depicting stories of train spotters from across Britain.
Production Arts student Ben Staples, previously of Easingwold School said: "This was an amazing opportunity to work with the latest lighting technology available in the industry in a fantastic museum. The staff were great and it was an enormous educational experience."
