Access to HE: Medicine & Science Information and Guidance Event
Here at York College & University Centre, we have a long-established programme of Access to Higher Education (Science) courses that are successful in providing mature students with qualifications equivalent to A level, that will permit students to progress onto university courses or medical school.
Apart from Medicine, each of our Access pathways has a focus on two subjects, this ensures that you will get the breadth and depth of subject knowledge and understanding required by your chosen degree course.
We offer 4 difference Science and Maths pathways:
- Biology – Chemistry
- Maths – Chemistry
- Maths – Physics
- Medicine (Chemistry – Biology – Maths – Professional behaviours)
This event is to ensure that you have sufficient information to make a decision about whether an Access course is right for you, and which would be the best one for you to reach your future career goals.
This online event will be broken down into two sessions:
Session 1: Access to Science, including Medicine
This session will give an overview of all medicine and science Access courses available, overview of topics, assessment, grading, time commitment and method of teaching. We will discuss the entry criteria , funding available, writing your personal statement and pre-course preparation. There will also be the opportunity to ask your own questions.
Session 2: Access to Medicine
The second half of this event will focus specifically on the Access to Medicine course. We will cover the specific requirements of medical schools, preparing to study medicine, what GCSE grades you require, discuss other prior qualification (A Level - degree), UCAT, work experience and your personal statement for UCAS. There will also be the opportunity to ask your own questions.
