Our New Student Days are for students starting their courses with us this September. Below are details about these events for A Levels, Vocational and Access courses.

A Level New Student Days

This event on Wednesday 3rd July 2019 is for those who have applied for A Levels at York College in September 2019. You will receive an invite in the post and via email.

Timings for the day

Arrival – please arrive at the main College reception at 9.00am, where you will be greeted and guided to collect your timetable and information for the day.

Finish – the day will finish at approximately 4.30pm.

What does the day involve?

All students are strongly encouraged to attend, as this day is to support your transition to College. During the day you will:

  • Meet College tutors and get to know other students who are going to study the same subjects as you
  • Attend an introductory session for each of your chosen A Level subjects, at which you will receive some summer activities to help you prepare for the start of each course
  • Find out what to expect in September and how to be a successful A Level student

What if I want to change the subjects I have applied for?

If you would like to change one or more of the A Level subjects that you have applied for then you will be able to do this at enrolment at the end of August. In order to try your revised subjects on the New Student Day, all you have to do is come to the Help Zone (first floor opposite the Learning Centre) once you have picked up your timetable and we will do our best to swap your subject sessions.

What do I need to bring?

Pen and paper to make notes during your sessions.

Some money to buy lunch if you need to, or additional snacks or drinks. Water bottles are the only drinks allowed in classrooms.

Lunch

Our dining facilities will be open for you to buy lunch if required, or you can make your own arrangements. The cost of a meal deal lunch at the College is from £3.00 and includes a choice of hot and cold food options. If you would prefer to bring your own lunch you can eat this in the College social areas.

What if I can’t make it?

We do not have any alternative dates for this event, however if you cannot attend this does not affect your offer of a place at College. A summer activity may be set for each subject to help students prepare for the start of term. Summer Work for 2019 will be available here.

Transport and College Coaches

The College coaches will be running on New Student Day and will be available for students who are attending the event to use to travel to and from College on the day. There is no cost for New Student Day students to use the coaches. Please show the coach driver your invitation letter/email as proof that you are attending College that day.

Vocational New Student Days

Our New Student Days for Vocational courses are being held the week commencing 1st July 2019 for those who have applied for a Vocational course at York College in September 2019. You will receive an invite in the post and via email.

If you need a reminder – these are the dates for all of the Vocational areas so you can see which day you need to attend. What does the day involve?

All students are strongly encouraged to attend, as this day is to support your transition to College. You will attend a session in the Vocational course that you have applied to do, during which you may receive a summer activity to help you prepare for the start of term. In addition, you will find out what to expect in September and receive information on how to be a successful student at College. You will also meet College tutors and get to know fellow students studying the same course as you.

What do I need to bring?

Pen and paper to make notes during your sessions.

Some money to buy lunch if you need to, or additional snacks or drinks. Water bottles are the only drinks allowed in classrooms.

If you have applied to do a Sport course you will need to bring or wear a t-shirt, shorts/tracksuit bottoms and trainers.

If you have applied to do a Construction course you will need to bring safety footwear (steel toe cap boots).

Lunch

Our dining facilities will be open for you to buy lunch if required, or you can make your own arrangements. The cost of a meal deal lunch at the College is from £3.00 and includes a choice of hot and cold food options. If you would prefer to bring your own lunch you can eat this in the College social areas.

Access New Student Days

Our New Student Days are to help prepare students for the start of term in September.

This event is for those who have applied for an Access course at York College in September 2019. You will receive an invite in the post and via email.

Timings for the day

The Access New Student Day is on Thursday 27th June 2019.

The day will comprise a selection of exciting workshops from a variety of universities as well as an introductory session with your Access Tutor and the opportunity to begin your UCAS application.

Don’t worry if you cannot attend the whole day, however it would be best if you could attend between 11.45am and 2.30pm to meet your tutor and others on your course.

What does the day involve?

You will be able to attend various sessions from universities and experts to help you get started with your application, these can be booked to suit you. There will be a welcome talk, a session with your access tutor, and a UCAS application workshop. During the day there will be a marketplace with universities from all around the country as well as employers.
