Martin studied A Levels in Business, Economics and Modern History with us between 2021 and 2023, before joining KPMG as a Level 7 Consulting Apprentice, working with Public Sector Clients across the UK. In April 2025, moved within the firm to Private Sector consulting, where he is currently working with global banks and insurers, which involves him working internationally.
Martin explains how York College helped prepared him for his future career: “At College, I was given access to external resources that helped me explore different opportunities – such as attending a Sutton Trust 1 week programme on Economics at Cambridge University; this was genuinely such a massive factor in how I started my career. York College also provided a great learning environment with external speakers coming in talking to us about various careers and topics.” He remembers one economics tutor who inspired him during his time with us: “Phil Armstrong really sparked a new interest for me in Economics and gave me so many new perspectives, and probably a reason why I am still such a critical thinker. He was just such an interesting tutor to learn from because of how he taught his students, his anecdotes and how he came across as a person.”
Martin has already achieved great things in his career, including being awarded the BPP Suzanne Finch Award – recognising his work in Apprenticeship Advocacy – in April 2025, and was recognised as the Apprentice of the Year for the Management & Professional Services industry in the national ‘Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards’ in November 2025. He is a passionate advocate for apprenticeships and was recently appointed by KPMG as a Back-to-School champion (B2S Champion). Martin hopes to come back to College soon to share his experience with our current students.
