EPQ topic – whether Net Zero was achievable in the UK by 2050 using only renewable energy sources

Why did you sign up for the EPQ?
The concept of renewable energy intrigued me, and I wanted to explore the science more through a research project.

What topic did you choose and why?
I explored whether Net Zero was achievable in the UK by 2050 using only renewable energy sources. I chose this topic as it's a very contemporary issue, and I wanted to verify the claims behind the project myself.

What was your highlight of the project?
I loved exploring how and why different energy sources worked the science behind them seemed so practical and exciting.

What key skills did you develop?
I developed my research skills and the ability to synthesise large amounts of secondary data. Deadlines were always tricky for me, and so my planning skills had to improve, too.

What are you doing now and how did the EPQ help you progress?
I am doing an undergraduate degree in Engineering at the University of York. My EPQ gave me the skills and experience I needed to tackle the projects I've undertaken effectively. If given the choice, I would definitely take the EPQ again.
