Why did you sign up for the EPQ?
The research side of sociology interested me and I wanted to apply what I had learned to a research project.
What topic did you choose and why?
I chose the reading behaviours of primary school children in relation to the COVID-19 lockdown as my mum is a primary school teacher who has vocalised these very issues.
What was your highlight of the project?
Going into schools and getting to interview children and teachers was a highlight for allowing me to gain a greater insight into the struggles of primary schools and enabling me to build on my interview skills.
What key skills did you develop?
I developed improved interviewer and rapport building skills, as well as the ability to search through and properly reference secondary literature. I also improved my ability to time manage and reach deadlines.
What are you doing now and how did the EPQ help you progress?
I am doing an undergraduate degree in sociology and social policy at the university of bath. It was my EPQ grade that secured my place here. The researching and referencing skills I learned in the EPQ are essential for my assignments and essays, which made it easier to settle into the course already having those skills.
