At York College we have a wide variety of enrichment activities, selected to enhance your programme of studies at the college. Some of these activities will take place within your main programme e.g. additional units of study, educational trips, visiting speakers, and relevant to the subject you are studying.
Other activities are available which are open to all students so that you are able to participate in new and exciting activities, develop personal skills, make new friends and gain valuable additional qualifications. This programme of enrichment activities is called ‘XTRA Curricular’ and we encourage all students to get involved with at least one of the activities available.
Every year we aim to provide activities which:
- Challenge you and get you thinking more deeply about issues
- Keep you fit and develop new skills
- Give you the opportunity to be creative and learn something new
- Let you have fun and put something back into the local community
- Help with your progression onto a career.
These activities may vary from year to year according to student demand but have recently included:
Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, Sirius Group, Debating Society, Extended Project, GCSE Latin, Italian for Beginners, Archery, Badminton, Yoga, Football, Choir, Rock Band, Volunteering, work and community Placements, Life Drawing, Christian Union and many more.
If the activity you want isn’t on offer let us know or could you run it yourself? If you think so, why not contact the Student Development Officer, in the Students’ Union office on Lounge on 1 for help.
Your Progress Tutor will assist you in your choice and also check on your progress throughout the year.
There is also an
